ABOUT US
Khiwane Bush Camp is situated about 30km south of Pongola in northern Kwazulu-Natal within close proximity of many big game reserves like Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park, Tembe Elephant Park as well as other popular tourist destinations like iSimagaliso Wetlands Park with Mkhuze Game Reserve, Lake St Lucia, Cape Vidal, Sodwana Bay, Kosi Bay, Lake Sibaya and southern Mozambique.
The name Khiwane refers to the magnificent Ficus Sycomorus (Common Cluster Fig) or as it is known in IsiZulu, umKhiwane. These magnificent trees are found all around the camp. Specifically in the dry riverbeds passing right in front of your chalet.
As we are surrounded by several luxury game reserves and lodges, who normally cater for overseas guests, we would like to give everyone the opportunity to experience an affordable bushveld experience.
What makes the Khiwane experience unique, is that visitors can drive around the reserve in their own vehicle (at their own risk). You are, however, prohibited to leave your vehicle, except in designated picnic areas.
Watch the beautiful sunset from the dam wall and say "hello" to our hippo family. On your game drive you will be sure to see a big variety of game including giraffe, zebra, blue wildebeest, nyala, kudu, impala, warthog and many more.
Bird lovers will also enjoy the abundance of birdlife. Look out for the Crested Guineafowl with its characteristic black head-plumes. Other species that are commonly seen are the Natal Robin, Red Chested Cuckoo, Red-Billed Wood Hoopoe, Golden-Tailed Woodpecker, Black Collared Barbet, Forktailed Drongo and many more.
Guests can relax in a comfortable bush camp situated in a unique Tamboti bush. Facilities include six airconditioned two-bed chalets with en-suite shower and toilet overlooking the beautiful bushveld. There is a fully equipped kitchen, Lapa, swimming pool with wooden deck, braai facilities etc. See Accommodation for full details.
